I hail from the small, high-desert town of Tehachapi, CA. Without question, I have always been an artist. I drew and drew as a child and remember being inexplicably drawn to the T-square my mother used in her calligraphy practice. I aspired to paint portraits, like my father, but was limited by my colorblindness. I developed a love for lines, shapes, and composition.
In Bakersfield, CA, I once stole a parking sign that wasn’t bolted down. It seemed to want a different home. It read “District Cars Only”, and upon further investigation I could see that it was hand-painted. I marveled at this sign, so impressed by the clean brushwork of its creator. At that time, I wasn’t even aware that such things would be hand-painted.
I moved to Humboldt County in 2004 in pursuit of a Studio Art degree. I graduated from Humboldt State University a few years later and have remained here ever since.
I still draw. I also paint, and I dream. Inspired to continue pursuing my own creative endeavors, I currently moonlight as Moth Light Design. I create out of my home studio, The Lantern, and use a T-square every chance I get.
